I call this section PD-on-the-fly because much of my PD is now accomplished via my iPad and while driving in my car. I find myself listening to podcasts driving to and from work as well as when mowing the lawn or waiting for an appointment. It used to be that I would spend a lot of time reading about new technology ideas and innovations. This is not time that I have to spare any more so I am choosing to listen to experts discuss these ideas and innovations in podcasts and can then reference later, anything that sounds interesting. ...

Podcasting put simply is the ability to publish audio or video on the internet so that people can subscribe and be automatically updated whenever a new "episode" is released. A "Podcatcher" is client software that allows you to search and subscribe to podcasts using RSS. You can read more about this in a wikipedia article.

Podcasts can be listened to on a number of different devices including

  • ipod or iphone
  • mp3 player
  • computer
  • car radio (via cable or FM from mp3 player)

Video podcasts can be watched on several kinds of devices as well including iPod Touch or Video, iPhone Laptop Computer or Apple TV.
Podcasts can be downloaded directly on the iPhone/iPod and Zune.

I use iTunes (Mac or PC) to manage my podcasts and to sync them with my iPod Touch. I then can use my iTouch to listen wherever and whenever I have some spare time. Doing this then allow me to do PD while I am

  • Driving home from work
  • Mowing the Lawn
  • Sitting on my porch
  • Waiting for an appointment.

This is an awesome way to stay connected with new information. Listed below are some of the podcasts that I listen to on a regular basis to keep myself current with the latest news and information on technology in education.
