Staying Connected
Once you have entered the world of technology in Education, the challenge is how you keep up with the latest developments. This section of my website lists a few methods that I use to stay connected with people and with technology in general. There is an article on listserves with some links. For other ideas you might try my Podcasting , Forums or Blogging pages.
ListServs
NWOCA maintains a couple of listservs that help our schools stay connected. There are also a number of good national listservs that I am subscribed to such as the EDTECH list from MSU.
A listserv is an online group mailing list that you subscribe to and receive messages that are addressed to that group. You signup and create a login that will allow you to manage your subscriptions. The account will be your email address (username) and a password that you specify. You can read old messages using the online archive.
If you have a question or comment you can post a message by sending an email to the lists email address. A copy of the message is sent to all the members of the list. If the list is a very active one this may be many messsges per day. Some may choose the digest option for receiving messages. This will cause you to receive one message a day which itself contains all the messsages sent that day.
Receiving messages in your inbox is an easy way to keep connected with what is happening on the listserv. Many teachers and tech coordinators use our lists to communicate problems, ideas and suggestions to one another.
